Essential oils have been used for centuries to heal, help with sleep, promote a peaceful mood, and provide mental clarity. Before you purchase them, you need to learn the best way to use each type of oil.

Here are 4 ways to use essential oils:

Some oils are best to use in a bathtub with warm water to help relax your muscles, reduce aches and pains, and soften your skin. If you choose this method, you’ll want to use one of the mild oils, such as lavender, sage, frankincense, eucalyptus, or sandalwood.

Many massage therapists use essential oils to provide friction on the skin and help soothe achy muscles. Some of the favorite oils for massage include jasmine, vanilla, and rose.

Adding a few drops of essential oil to water and putting it into a diffuser will freshen the smell of your home and help provide a sense of wellbeing. Lavender and chamomile oils can promote sleep. Make sure you clean your diffuser regularly to prevent the buildup of mold and other harmful elements.

Facial Steam

Put a couple of drops in a bowl or pot of hot water, lean over it, and cover your head with a towel to prevent the steam from escaping. Inhale deeply to clear your sinuses and open the pores on your face. Some good oils for a facial steam include tea tree or rosemary.

The use of essential oils is a personal preference. Try several methods and types of oils to see which one’s work best for you.
